Real World of Sherlock

This book bridges the gap between Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional detective and the actual historical landscape of Victorian London. It investigates the real-life figures who shaped the iconic persona of Sherlock Holmes—most notably Dr. Joseph Bell—while also tracing the historical evolution of 19th-century forensics, police work, and early criminology. It explores how real crimes of the era compared to Doyle’s stories and whether the fictional detective’s methods matched the true capabilities of early crime scene investigators.
