Where the Innocent Die

When a young Chinese woman slated for deportation is discovered dead at a Manchester Immigrant Removal Centre, authorities quickly look to close the book on the case by ruling it a suicide. However, Detective Inspector Thomas Ridpath immediately spots inconsistencies that point to something much more sinister. With a strict five-day deadline before the formal inquest wraps up, Ridpath finds himself operating in a high-pressure environment where he is isolated by the police force, at odds with the coroner’s office, and stonewalled by an uncaring bureaucratic system. As he pushes deeper against institutional cover-ups to uncover the truth, he risks his career—and his life—to expose a terrifying ring of exploitation that preys on the most vulnerable.
