Black Water

Set against the stark, atmospheric backdrop of Dublin’s Grand Canal, the story exposes the dark underbelly of a working-class neighborhood dominated by ruthless drug syndicates. The narrative revolves around Jig, a vulnerable ten-year-old boy trying to escape a broken home, who gets recruited as a courier by an unprincipled gang lieutenant known as “Ghost”. When a high-stakes task assigned to Jig goes dangerously awry, it triggers a chaotic chain reaction that pulls in his well-meaning soccer coach, Shay—who is secretly leaking information to the authorities—and Tara Crowe, a determined detective trying to bring down the local cartel from the inside while hunting for a suspected police mole. Written by a real-life crime correspondent, the book delivers a realistic, fast-paced look at systemic poverty and corruption where the lines between the law and the streets blur.
