The Lord God Made Them All

Set in the immediate aftermath of World War II, this heartwarming memoir follows country vet James Herriot as he returns home from his service in the Royal Air Force. He settles back into the rhythm of his rural veterinary practice in the rolling hills of Yorkshire. Alongside navigating the challenges of raising a young family, Herriot treats a colorful array of animals and contends with the eccentric, stubborn local farmers who own them. The book beautifully balances his routine veterinary adventures with extraordinary post-war trips, including a voyage to deliver pedigree sheep to Russia and a flight transporting cattle to Istanbul, all told with his signature warmth, humor, and deep affection for the natural world.
