Vets Might Fly

This book is the fifth installment in James Herriot’s world-famous series detailing his life as a country veterinarian. The narrative begins just as the peaceful, comforting routine of his newlywed life and rural veterinary practice in the Yorkshire Dales is abruptly upended by the outbreak of the Second World War. Newly enlisted in the Royal Air Force (RAF), Herriot finds himself swapped out of his familiar countryside mud for the grueling rigors of a military training camp. As he endures endless drills, marches, and strict wartime routines, he keeps his spirits high by reflecting on his beloved, eccentric Yorkshire patients, the local farmers, and his colorful partners, Siegfried and Tristan. It is a heartwarming and humorous balance between tough military life and nostalgic country memories.
